Name: Jake English
Canon: Homestuck
Age: 16
Timeline: Directly after everything blows up. Jake wakes up, God-Tier, on the train.

Personality: When you think 'hero', you should think of Jake English. No, really! He's probably the most heroic, adventure-having dude that you'll ever meet. From his double pistols to his 1920s vernacular, he's the picture of suave...if 'suave' means 'awkward teenage boy with no concept of proper decorum', that is.

Having grown up on an island in the middle of nowhere means that while Jake is pretty handy when it comes to defending himself, he has little to no concept of what 'social cues' are, and this tends to leave him in a bit of a bind on a frequent basis. All the ways to interact with people he knows he's learned from movies and from the textual conversations he's had with his closest friends via pesterchum. As such, he has a bad tendency to barrel forward with topics of conversation that most sane people would know to leave alone, occasionally making social faux pas that drive his friends to grimace and leave him wondering what, exactly, he did wrong.

Unfortunately, this means that Jake is also a little self-centered. Did I say a little? I mean a lot. Maybe it's because he grew up in a world where everyone was the star of their own movie; but whatever the reason, Jake English rarely takes others' emotions into account when he's caught up in his own little balls of strife. Sure, he worries about his friends, and he cares very deeply for them, but he has a tendency to put himself first, for all that he doesn't mean to. It's not an intentional selfishness, it's just emotional caution...at least, that's what he tells himself.

Still, for all that he really has no idea what he's doing when it comes to people, Jake doesn't let it get him down. Good-natured almost to a fault, he does everything with a grin (and a wink, if he can get away with it), striding through life with his chin held high and under the firm impression that you should be able to do just about everything with a smile. After all, everything must have a happy ending, right? He's there to ensure that it does, and - with no concept of self-preservation and without any real amount of fear - he is more than willing to throw himself into any battle that presents itself to him, especially if the end result looks anything like 'saving the day'. If there's going to be a hero, it's going to be Jake, and he's either going to make it happen or die trying.

Lately, however, he's discovered that being a Big Damn Hero isn't all its cracked up to be. Entering the game made a lot of his childhood fantasies real - and Jake is slowly coming to terms with how little he actually enjoys True Adventure. It's one thing when it's battling beasts on an island you call home; it's quite another when the beasts are threatening your life on a daily basis.

His recent emotional turmoil concerning his closest friends has left Jake a little disillusioned with the whole 'romance' shtick, and while he's currently trying to make amends, he's really not sure where to begin. As a result, Jake's a little more distant than he'd like to be at the moment, unsure of who he can trust and where to turn.

Maybe that's why the Powers that Be have seen fit to bring him to Ruby City. After all, what better place for a brokenhearted, adventureless boy to be?

Background: Jake English on the MSPA wiki.

Abilities:
God Tier: Having very recently made the transition from mere mortal to God Tier, Jake is pretty unaware of what his strengths and weaknesses are concerning his new title, though he does get all the basic perks of God Tier: fast healing, increased strength and speed, and (of course) the ability to fly. It's unlikely he's aware of any of these powers yet, as he became God Tier just as he entered Ruby City.
Page of Hope: Jake doesn't know exactly what his powers as Page of Hope are, but he's got them. Maybe he'll figure them out. Probably not.
Accomplished Marksman: Years on a jungle island by himself has given Jake plenty of time to hone his marksman skills. For all that a lot of his skills are embellished for the sake of show, Jake is very good with his gun, and his pistols are his most prized possessions.
Hand-to-Hand Fighting: Dirk Strider once sent Jake a mechanized version of himself specifically for the sake of increasing Jake's fighting prowess, and Jake spent a long time honing his skills against a creation that basically wiped the floor with him constantly. While Jake may have lost more frequently than he won against the Brobot, he still learned a lot, and he's more than capable of holding his own in any battle.
